Would you wash your hands where you pee?
It may sound revolting, but this urinal with sensor-activated built-in faucets is the future of public bathrooms, according to its Latvian designer Kaspars Jursons. The quirky comfort station, called STAND, means men now have no excuse for not washing their hands after a trip to the men’s room.
“If you didn’t have the habit of washing your hands after you go to the bathroom before, you will definitely be reminded now, faced with a tap right at the urinal.”
With recent Michigan State University research finding at least 10% of people do not wash their hands, despite the threat of coliform bacteria. But, as only one in 20 people wash their hands long enough to kill all harmful germs, would you really want to scrub away just inches from where you’re urinated?

PATRICK’S OPINION: The urinal-sink combination sounds like the title of a Big Bang Theory episode. When I first saw this story, I have to admit I was fairly grossed out. However, now that I’ve had time to think about it, and after observing people doing their business and then ‘forgetting’ to wash their hands, I’ve changed my mind and I think the inventor is on to something. If I can find the urinal-sink combination in Utah, I think I’ll install it at my house. What do you think of the urinal-sink combination? Leave your comments below.
